Fun Fridays

This year’s Friday Themes...

Fridays are extra fun at Super Duper Arts Camp.  Fridays are when we shift away from our “normal” schedule to make room for special activities, games, events, performances and treats, all under the theme of that particular Fun Friday, as well as to celebrate Shabbat.

Campers also get to show their individual and group spirit by participating in the day's theme, whether it be wearing special clothes or costumes, dressing in unison with their group or preparing a surprise for the whole camp with their group.  The best part is all the fun of surprising the campers with special events around the theme, watching all the campers coming to camp dressed according to the theme and having an entire day of outside the box fun to look forward to.

Occasionally, Fun Fridays are also an opportunity for our Kindergarten – 2nd grade groups to show off what they’ve been working on in their music, dance, theater or other classes, or for our 3rd grade & up campers & JCITs to put on a performance or demonstration they’ve been working on all session.

An annual tradition, this is where we kick off a summer of fun with a good ol’ fashioned pre- 4th-of-July-liquid-fireworks-blast-off-dance-party-happy-birthday-USA-bring-on-the-summer-celebration-extravaganza.   Campers dress in red, white and blue and usher in the summer in style!

For many of us adults, the year 2010 represents the space future from our childhood (remember, we all thought we’d be in flying cars by now?)   So we’re taking the opportunity to set the tone for the next generation of visions of the space future.  We’re talking outer space, aliens, spaceships, intergalactic space travel, futuristic games, robots and visions of the future.

Intergalactic Space Future

A mid-summer tradition at Super Duper Arts Camp, where this holiday was invented.  With Purim 3 months behind and Halloween 3 months ahead, Hallo-Purim-Ween provides campers and staff with the glorious opportunity to dress in crazy and hilarious costumes in the middle of summer, go trick or treating, enjoy hamentashen and be treated to a special Hallo-Purim-Ween surprise.  Everyone loves this one!

Hallo-Purim-Ween

This is Pajama Day taken to the next level.  Not only do we come to camp wearing our PJs & bed-heads, but we have a leisurely start to our day, gather for an old fashioned camp mess hall breakfast & snuggle up with our blankets, sleeping bags and stuffed animals to tell stories, play slumber party games and enjoy a special surprise.

PajamaRama

Ra ta da da, da da ra ta da da! (think classic circus tune).  Campers are invited to dress in the circus theme, whether it be clowns, dancing bears, bearded ladies or a more modern cirque interpretation.  We’ll have circus treats as we enjoy a circus performance and clowning workshop under the big top.  Juggle that!

Circus Circus

Who Says we have to wait 4 years for the next Olympics?   We’re reinstating this Super Duper Arts Camp favorite and upgrading it to Annual Tradition status.  Each group will design a team flag, decide and dress in team colors and we’ll stage our very own Games of the Super Duper Olympiad, including opening ceremonies, a multitude of real and made up Olympic events, medals and parade of nations, er, uh, groups.  Let the games begin!

Super Duper Summer Olympics

Feel the Aloha!  This is definitely one of the mega-favorite Fun Fridays of the summer.  Campers indulge in all things Hawaiian as we dress in our aloha shirts and skirts, make and wear leis,  make tropical fruit smoothies, learn the hula and have a serious Luau, complete with authentic Hawaiian Hula Dancers and an outrageous Fire Poi performance.

Aloha Day

Step right up!  Step right up!  Knock out the milk cans and win a prize!  Campers dress in whatever crazy costumes or gear they like as we put on a Super Duper Carnival, complete with booths, games, prizes, moon bounce, face-paintings, balloon animals and even a dunk tank!

Carnival

Hear Ye, Hear ye!  Gather ‘round, ye knights & ladies, for it is time to make merriment!  Campers dress in medieval & renaissance attire, including knights, princesses, kings, queens, even pirates – why not?   Grub & Grog abound, as we joust (safely), prance, and delight in a genuine medieval banquet and tournament of Giants, Wizards & Dwarves.  Oh My!

Medieval Times

Just when summer is too hot to handle, we transform the auditorium into a full functioning air conditioned movie theater, complete with a feature film on the big screen, surround sound, popcorn, concessions, even tickets and ushers with goofy hats.  This is also when we screen the big premier of our Super Duper Arts Camp young filmmakers’ films, created by the campers themselves.  A big favorite among campers.
